Putting one's self in a position to be apart of these career fields offer many life skills. One would build, and have the opportunity to practice their communication skills. They would also be able to show support for one's community by participating in volunteer events, and encourage involvement amongst peers. Participating in an event that matches one's interests can create new relationships within your community, learn new skills, and possibly be an opportunity to advance one's career. Volunteer Benefits
Volunteering does not have to be an extravagant thing, spending time reading with an individual can be considered volunteer work. Whether it's spending fifteen-plus hours a week bagging food at a church, or one hour every two weeks bathing animals in a shelter, all work spent out of your own time helping another person or group, is time well spent. This should be a fun hobby, not something you feel like you're being forced to do. Volunteer Opportunities
Preparing for your Future What students do outside of the classroom, reflects back on themselves. It reflects on their level of motivation, their sense of community and moral. Having the "extracurricular edge" can boost your chances of college admission. Personal skills this can reflect on, according to Education Professionals are your ability to prioritize, time-management, how responsible you are/can be, and the leadership qualities you have within yourself. One's ability to achieve this is developed inside, AND outside of a classroom. Having the opportunity to get involved with your community, through a school program has put an individual on the track for success. This is why it's so important to introduce underclassmen to programs that can give them the chance to explore careers that they might want to pursue when they're older. For students who put in so much effort into improving themselves, and their communities through the course of their programs, FCCLA competitions are the perfect place to show off these skills and achievements. They are surrounded with other strong willed young adults, who share similar interests. In doing this they can build connections amongst themselves, and build leadership skills that can stay with them throughout the course of their lives. Succeeding in an FCCLA event can bring scholarships opportunities, and encourage students to keep competing. |
